{You Can See Me?}
Canada X Country!Reader Chapter 2 {Day Off}

The next morning you awoke early to the soft rustling of autumn branches out side your open bay window, bright rays of sunshine coming from the nearly cloudless blue sky, dotted with the colors of floating leaves. You stood, the light, (f/c) cotton coverlets shifting against each other as you threw them to the side, falling in a heap of fabric near the edge of the bed.

Sliding off of your cloud-like mattress you let your uncovered feet hit the hard wood floor, the resin painted over the wood shining like a star in the morning light. The glare was a little harsh for your eyes, but you soon got used to it, your clenched eyes finally returning to their full size, but were still bleary from waking up just moments before.

You ran your fingertips over your forehead before yawning widely, making a soft sound in the back of your throat, still not ready to be up.

But, of course, being a country wasn’t always a fun time. It was filled with mountains of paper work that always seemed to give you paper cuts sooner or later. It was also filled with headache creating government meetings, where, like the World Summits, most of the time never got anything done but argue. But seeing as it was your own annoyance mixed with a brewing thunder inside of your skull, you let your anger lash out upon all of the officials, making them shut up for at least a few seconds.

You groaned at the thought, but on a semi-happy note, you didn’t have to go anywhere today. You had a ‘day off’ from meetings and all of those wonderful things that went along with running a successful country.

But… paperwork.

The very word brought shivers down your spine, making your skin quiver rapidly.

Chuckling to yourself, you shifted onto your right foot, the left growing slightly numb from leaning most of your weight for so long. Playing with the cuff of your long sleeved sleeping shirt, you started to shuffle to your bathroom to get ready for the day.

Your routine wasn’t all that complicated, especially when you didn’t have to try to impress anyone. You ran a brush through your (h/l) hair while using your other hand to scrub your teeth clean with your minty tasting toothpaste. You then cleaned your face gently, pulling back your hair with a simple band to keep your hair from getting all wet, lathering the cleanser over your skin and then rising in the sink, looking up at your cleaned face in the mirror, smiling slowly as you ran your fingers messily through your hair to shake out the shape the headband had put it into.

Feeling more awake than you had before you had entered the bathroom, you stepped out onto the cool wooden floor of your bedroom, pulling the white door closed behind you. You changed into a (f/c) tank top, pulling on a pair of black yoga pants, deciding not to bother with socks or shoes, it was still warm enough that you didn’t have to cover yourself up in head to toe.

After you put your pajamas away, you turned with a heavy and headed the short way to your office, facing the white stacks of paper with a glare made of deadly lasers. You could already feel your hands and eyes starting to strain.

If you had counted the times loud, annoyed groans that escaped your lips, you would have been far past a billion. And the best part was, you had barely gotten through half the stack. When did paperwork have to become so stressful?!

Moving your hands across your forehead and back into your (h/c) hair, squeezing your eyes shut and sighing in defeat. Who knew the end of (country name) would be from paperwork? You chuckled in dismay, shaking your head while rubbing small circles on your scalp to help the blooming headache that was forming.

Pushing back the chair with your knees, you stood, shaking your head at the sunlight that was seeping through the clear window, the tops of golden trees, leaves dancing wildly in the slight wind that was constantly blowing across your neighborhood.

You smiled softly when the dance of leaves brought back the memories from the day before with the soft-spoken Canadian. Moving to your large window, you leaned against the sill, nose practically pressed against the cooled glass panes. You let your slightly pounding mind wander, eyes closing slightly as they blurred over, and your mind’s eye taking control of your vision.

You placed a hand under your chin, humming softly, a soft smile starting to split your lips.

It was a while later before you were shocked out of your trance when your phone started to play an electronic tone quite loudly, your body jolting, causing you to step back a little, snatching your phone off the desk behind you.

As you recovered from your little panic attack, you pressed the green button that would accept the call, pulling it up to your ear as your heart rate slowed.

“Hello?” You said calmly, trying not to give the caller any hint that they just scared you half to death.

You heard the baritone voice of your boss resonate through the small speakers, and you rolled your eyes, you had the day off, he shouldn’t be calling you!

“I know you must be wondering why I’m calling, Miss (name).”

You sighed inwardly; you swore this guy could read your mind sometimes, “Yeah… It’s my day off, and I told you I had some things to finish up for the government. Today was an off grid day.”

He chuckled into the microphone, “Yes, yes, I know all about your work. But there’s a rather important matter that we need to call you in for, and I would appreciate it if we got it done sooner rather than later?”

“What? Is something changing?”

“Well…. You could say.”

His unresponsiveness was making your blood boil, couldn’t he just tell you over the phone so you wouldn’t get so suspicious?

“Well?”

“Well?” He replied, probably thinking he was clever.

“Dammit. Tell me, boss, you know how much I’d rather not be kept in the dark.” You hissed, pulling the chair out from under the office desk, sitting back down with a soft huff.

“(name), if I was allowed to tell you over the phone I would, but right now I can’t do that. So, I’ll need you to come into the Summit building for a private meeting.”

You hissed like a cat in your head, “Fine. When should I come in?”

“Ah, now would be nice, if you wouldn’t mind, of course?” You could practically feel the smirk across the phone connection, and that just made you want to groan in dismay.

Whatever was coming, you probably wouldn’t like it.

You just hoped it wasn’t that horrible as you imagined.
